Text Messages Improved Colon and Rectal Cancer Screening in Underserved Community
Black woman on a cell phone   Results from a new study show that combining text messages with free at-home test kits helped boost colorectal cancer screening among people who have traditionally low screening rates. 
Meet the Epidemiologist Reaching across Borders to Save Lives
NCA50 logo   A team led by Dr. Aimée Kreimer has found that one dose of the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine provides long-term protection against cervical cancer, which kills 300,000 people per year worldwide. She is working with researchers in Costa Rica to confirm the team's findings. Learn more about efforts to prevent cervical cancer.
Engineered Immune Cells Prevented Cancer from Spreading in Mice
Genetically engineered myeloid cells (pink) to deliver an anticancer signal (purple dots) to sites where cancer may spread.   In an NCI study, injecting mice with immune cells that were changed in the lab shrank tumors and prevented cancer from spreading to other parts of the body. The immunotherapy approach shows promise as a treatment for cancer in humans that has spread.
Targeted Therapy Slows Growth of Kidney Cancer

Results from a new study show that cabozantinib (Cabometyx) is the most effective treatment option to date for some people with papillary renal cell carcinoma (PRCC), a type of kidney cancer.

Melphalan Flufenamide Hydrochloride

We've added a new drug summary for melphalan flufenamide hydrochloride (Pepaxto), which the Food and Drug Administration recently approved to be used in combination with dexamethasone to treat multiple myeloma that has relapsed or stopped responding to certain types of treatments.

NIH invites feedback on the approaches NIH can take to advance racial equity, diversity, and inclusion within all facets of the biomedical research workforce and expand research to eliminate or lessen health disparities and inequities. This RFI will assist NIH in identifying, developing, and implementing strategies that will allow the biomedical enterprise to benefit from a more diverse and inclusive research workforce and a more robust portfolio of research to better understand and address inequities in NIH's existing system.
