Help us protect front line workers in the fight against COVID-19

Will you help us work even harder for health care professionals?

Connected For Life

COVID-19 Reponse

Across the country, health care systems are facing a shortage of critical supplies. And the number of health care professionals who have had COVID-19 is growing by the day. The time to act is now. That’s why the American Diabetes Association® is doing all we can to protect these front line heroes:

  • We’ve successfully urged the FDA, during this crisis, to help reduce exposure to the virus by expanding the use of remote patient monitoring in hospitals—including continuous glucose monitors (CGMs).
  • Working with our partners, we’ve secured the donation of 25,000 CGMs to be given to hospitals across the country that are in need.
  • We’ve created a COVID-19 resource center specifically for our professional community, to help them stay informed and provide safe, effective care.
  • We are advocating for $0 insulin co-pays to keep people with diabetes safe and out of the hospital, and reduce the strain on our health care systems.

Health care professionals play a crucial role in keeping our diabetes community safe. We need your help to keep these front line workers safe, too.

If you are able, please donate to help us continue these efforts.

SUPPORT OUR MISSION

Medicaid Updates 05/29/2020

Opportunities to Support Enrollment in the Medicare Savings Programs and Extra Help

The Medicare Savings Programs and Extra Help are important programs designed to help low-income Americans afford Medicare coverage. Many people who are eligible for these programs are not yet enrolled. Each May, the Social Security Administration (SSA) sends letters to 2 million low-income Medicare beneficiaries, informing them about the Medicare Savings Programs and how they can help with Medicare costs. These include the Qualified Medicare Beneficiary (QMB), Specified Low-income Medicare Beneficiary (SLMB), and Qualifying Individual (QI) programs.

The letters provide information on what Medicare Savings Programs cover, a brief description of the income and asset criteria, and how to apply. SSA also sends a data file to each state – sent this year on May 8th -- identifying the Medicare beneficiaries to whom the outreach letters are being mailed. States can use these data files to conduct targeted outreach to individuals who may qualify and support customer service representatives at Medicaid hotlines who may receive calls. More information on this outreach effort and the model letters (see specifically SSA-L447 and SSA-L448) is found on the SSA website; the data file name is OLBG.BTI.S**.MEDOUT1.Ryymmdd. See also the data file specifications.
