OWH Launches Two National Prize Competitions

The HHS Office on Women's Health (OWH) recently announced two national prize competitions. OWH will award $3.1 million in cash prizes for innovative methods designed to advance health equity.

HHS Racial Equity in Postpartum Care Challenge

OWH in partnership with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services will award prizes for innovative methods designed to improve postpartum care for Black or African American and American Indian/Alaska Native women enrolled in Medicaid or the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP). The emphasis will be on follow-up care for diabetes, postpartum depression and/or postpartum anxiety, hypertension, and substance use disorders (SUD).

Deadline (Phase 1): February 28, 2022

HHS Endocrine-Disrupting Chemicals (EDC) Innovator Award Competition

Endocrine-disrupting chemicals interfere with the body's hormones and may cause adverse health effects. This OWH competition is looking for programs that increase awareness of the risks associated with EDCs and provide solutions to reduce EDC exposure for Black or African American women.

RFA-NR-22-002 and RFA-NR-22-003: "Advancing Integrated Models (AIM) of Care to Improve Maternal Health Outcomes Among Women Who Experience Persistent Disparities" seek to foster intervention research that addresses structural inequities and reduces disparities in severe maternal morbidity and mortality.

RFA-NR-22-001"Evaluating the Impact of COVID-19 Pandemic-related Food and Housing Policies and Programs on Health Outcomes in Health Disparity Populations (R01 Clinical Trial Optional)" aims to identify and evaluate the ongoing and long-term impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, focusing specifically on governmental (local, state, tribal, federal) policy and programmatic actions that address two specific social determinants of health: food/nutrition security and housing security.

NIAID Trial Tests Strategy to Augment Response to COVID-19 Vaccines in Transplant Recipients

A new NIAID-funded clinical trial is testing whether temporarily reducing immunosuppressive medication taken during the days before and after an additional dose of an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine safely allows for better antibody responses to vaccination in kidney and liver transplant recipients. The study team is enrolling people for whom two to four doses of a COVID-19 mRNA vaccine did not elicit a detectable antibody response. The trial is called COVID Protection After Transplant‒Immunosuppression Reduction, or CPAT-ISR.
