Just released: Standardized clinical definition for opioid withdrawal in neonates HHS in partnership with national experts recently took action to ensure accurate and consistent bedside diagnosis of opioid withdrawal in neonates, or newborn babies. By recommending a standardized clinical definition with accompanying bioethical principles, the goal is to improve the clinical and supportive needs assessment of the mother and her baby and are not meant to prove or imply harm. Improved diagnosis aimed at reducing stigma is the first step to ensuring infants and families with opioid exposure get the care they need.
