Community Behavioral Health Clinic Certification

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) seeks public comment on the revised draft of the updated Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) Certification Criteria. Since the creation of the model in 2014, Congress and the Administration have taken a number of steps to expand the number of CCBHCs nationally to enhance access to and coordination of behavioral health services. CCBHCs offer a broad range of services and SAMHSA is asking for recommendations and input on the revised draft of the CCBHC Criteria by emailing CCBHCCriteria@samhsa.hhs.gov no later than January 20, 2023.

Rural organizations developing behavioral and mental health care services should review the criteria and requirements to ensure implementation of the CCBHC model reflect the rural delivery care context. Increased flexibilities, structural changes, additions to strengthen the model, clarifications, and state alternatives to meeting certification criteria may impact rural engagement. The revised CCBHC criteria are applicable to all CCBHCs, regardless of state, tribe, territory, or funding stream and maintain the six program requirements and nine services that anchor the 2014 CCBHC criteria. The criteria continue to emphasize the principals embedded in the Protecting Access to Medicare Act (PAMA), including the provision of coordinated, person-and family-centered care to help individuals recover, be healthy, and live fully within their communities.

SAMHSA will host a webinar on Thursday, January 5 from 2 pm to 3 pm ET to provide an overview of the draft updates and the process for public input.

The Autism Society of America extends our New Year wishes and gratitude to you and our entire community. Because of your support this year, we’ve connected with over half a million people in the Autism community with the supports, services, resources, and advocacy to create a world where all those with Autism can live to their fullest extent. Above all, to eliminate feelings of isolation, we create connections to each other, facilitating a community of acceptance.

Recently, Sam Brandsen, a member of the Autism Society of America’s Council of Autistic Advisors and parent to an Autistic child, penned an article about the importance of caregiving and acceptance:

"His special interest at the moment is spiderwebs…so we go to the forest and I follow him around as he effusively compliments every spiderweb he sees. Maybe there is some underlying academic function to this– perhaps he will eventually do research related to insects or spiderwebs. But maybe not, maybe the only function is that he enjoys it and it seems to help him thrive, and that is also worthwhile."

On behalf of our team, nationwide network of affiliates, and the tens of thousands of people we serve across the country, thank you for the gift of acceptance, hope, and connection to begin 2023.
