Beneficiaries offer the gift of life through kidney donation

Donating a kidney hasn't slowed down Air Force Col. Dave Ashley. Two years after his life-saving act, Ashley is running in ultramarathons and training for a multiday team event in Fiji that includes mountain climbing and whitewater rafting. And what began as an impulse to help a desperately ill former West Point classmate has turned into a campaign to make sure other Military Health System beneficiaries know that living organ donations are an option.

Invisible wounds don't discriminate by gender, study finds

A significant number of military women injured in combat-related events subsequently experienced invisible wounds such as post-traumatic stress and anxiety, according to a recent Naval Health Research Center study. Further, women in the enlisted ranks were more likely than female officers to receive these mental health diagnoses.

Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune becomes first Level III Trauma Center in the Navy

The first trauma center aboard a United States Marine Corps installation celebrated its achievements with an official ribbon cutting on January 18, 2019. This follows a year of Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune (NMCCL) obtaining Level III verification from the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and state designation by the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services (NC OEMS).
