OMH Grants

  • HHS/Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health (OASH): Grant. OMH Hepatitis B Demonstration Grant Program. OMH seeks to develop model comprehensive hepatitis B programs that include strategic partnerships between: community-based organizations servicing communities-at-risk; departments of health; perinatal hepatitis B programs; safety net providers; research centers; and healthcare facilities.

Federal Grants

  • HHS/National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD): Small Business Technology Transfer Grant. Technologies for Improving Minority Health and Eliminating Health Disparities. Appropriate technologies should be effective, affordable, and culturally acceptable.

  • HHS/Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC): Grant. Research Grants to Identify Effective Strategies for Opioid Overdose Prevention. Emphasis is placed on studies that generate findings that can immediately be translated into action to shorten the time lag between development and scale-up.

  • HHS/CDC, Division of Cancer Prevention and Control (DCPC): Cooperative agreement. The CDC Cancer Genomics Program: Translating Research into Public Health Practice. The primary outcomes of this funding opportunity are to increase screening of cancer family history and to increase the use of genetic counseling and testing for hereditary cancer syndromes.

  • HHS/Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA): Grant. First Responders-Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act. The purpose of this program is to allow first responders and members of other key community sectors to administer a drug or device approved or cleared under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act for emergency treatment of known or suspected opioid overdose.

  • The Institute of Museum and Library ServicesNative American Library Services Enhancement Grants. Supports libraries and archives serving American Indians/Alaska Natives (AI/AN) tribes, ivillages, regional corporations, and village corporations.

  • Oncology Nursing Foundation: Cancer Public Education Project. Supports projects that enhance the public's knowledge and awareness of cancer prevention, detection, and treatment modalities.

  • The van Ameringen Foundation: Mental Health Direct Service and Non-Direct Service Grants. Supports projects based in New York and Philadelphia that increase the accessibility of mental health services to people and communities with limited financial means, offer preventive and early-intervention strategies, and advocate for systemic change with local or national impact.

  • Inter-Tribal Council of Michigan/National Native Network, in conjunction with the Indian Health Service (IHS) Health Promotion and Disease Prevention: Cancer Risk Reduction in Indian Country webinar series. Colorectal Cancer and Diabetes Cancer Risk Factors. This webinar will address common risk factors for colorectal cancer, barriers to colorectal cancer screening, the most commonly seen cancers, and trends in diabetes care and outcomes among the AI/AN community.

  • Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC): Live Stream. Preventing Suicidal Behavior in American Indian and Alaska Native Communities: A Health Equity Issue. UVDC March 2019
  • HHS Office of Minority Health (OMH): Registration is open for a UVDC Grant Writing Training. OMH has partnered with Harris-Stowe State University for a workshop designed to teach strategies that help faculty secure funding to improve minority health. This workshop is open to junior faculty/staff/researchers at minority serving academic institutions in Missouri and surrounding states.

  • National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine: Workshop. Dialogue about the Workforce for Population Health Improvement. This workshop will be accessible to the public via live webcast and in-person attendance. March 21 in Washington, DC. Register.

  • Centro SOL, the Urban Health Institute, and the American Academy of Pediatrics' Maryland Chapter: Registration is open for the 4th Annual Latinx Health Conference, Mind Your Health: Community Centered Solutions to Mental Health Issues.

  • National Indian Health Board: Registration is open for the 10th Annual National Tribal Public Health Summit. This year's summit will feature tracks on health promotion, public health policy, substance use, behavioral health, environmental health, emergency preparedness and more.

  • National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD): Registration is open for the 2019 Health Disparities Research Institute (HDRI). HDRI aims to support the research career development of promising minority health/health disparities research scientists early in their careers, and to stimulate research in the disciplines supported by health disparities science.

National Native HIV/AIDS Awareness Day
  • HHS recognizes March 20 as National Native HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NNHAAD), a day to consider the impact of HIV/AIDS on American Indians, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians. For further information and resources, please visit HIV.gov or IHS.gov.

Clinical Trials

  • The University of Washington, in collaboration with the NIH National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK): Phase 1 clinical trial. Clearance of 25-hydroxyvitamin D in Chronic Kidney Disease (CLEAR). Researchers seek African American or African volunteers age 18 years or older with chronic kidney disease. Study to be conducted at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA. Learn more.

  • U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)/Office of Research and Development: Early phase 1 clinical trial. Exercise to Prevent Muscle Mass and Functional Loss in Elderly Dialysis Patients (PERFECT). This study is designed to determine the effectiveness of an exercise program on improving muscle mass, exercise capacity and quality of life in persons with end-stage renal disease. Researchers seek volunteers age 55-80 years old who are undergoing maintenance hemodialysis. Study to be conducted at the Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System in Palo Alto, CA. Learn more.

The publication HRSA's Home Visiting Program: Supporting Families Impacted by Opioid Use and Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome sheds light on the opioid epidemic and its impact on mothers. Awardees from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) program received this document to use as a guide for nurses, social workers, and other health professionals who conduct visits to new mothers and their young children. The document contains research, along with examples of existing evidence-based models of home visiting programs in multiple states.
