Each year, NIAID recognizes World Tuberculosis Day by reaffirming its commitment to fighting TB—the single deadliest disease on the planet. An estimated two billion people are currently infected with latent TB worldwide, and the disease killed approximately 1.6 million people in 2017 alone. Through continued research into diagnostics, therapeutics and vaccines for TB, NIAID stands with the world's public health organizations in declaring that "It's Time" to end TB once and for all.
