April is National Autism Awareness Month, and April 2 is World Autism Awareness Day. This year the Autism Society is excited to share that our focus for April will be on celebrating the unique gifts of invididuals on the spectrum. To us this month is about #CelebratingDifferences, sharing positive, respectful, and accurate information about autism and the families and loved ones who support our community year-round. More importantly, inviting others to learn about the Autism Society and why we see things differently when it comes to autism. We believe that every person impacted by autism is deserving of the highest level of self respect and should be provided with opportunities to maxmize their quality of life. Last year, we served over 650,000 people our support included: helping provide access to resources to support students on the spectrum graduate, establishing partnerships with businesses to create meaningful employment opportunties, and championing the advancement of independence and self sufficiency of those we serve. We use this month to raise awareness and connect individuals and families with the resources they need. Did you know that our National Contact Center Help line has trained Information & Referral ( I & R) Specialists to help you identify resources, and identify alternative options so you can make informed choices? During the month of April, we invite you to learn about autism and how can support individuals and families. If you believe like we do that being different is great, join us, work with us, and care with us.
