  • HHS/OMH: Webinar. Advocating for Prevention in Communities of Color: The Role of Providers Amid the Opioid Crisis. The webinar will highlight key facts and statistics about opioid misuse and mortality, and the disparities that exist among racial and ethnic minority populations. Speakers will discuss principles, strategies and best practices for preventing opioid misuse, addiction and overdose, and will provide information on how providers can play a role in culturally and linguistically appropriate prevention efforts.

  • The HHS/Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recognize May as Hepatitis Awareness Month. Learn more about each type of hepatitis and find health promotion tools at CDC's Learn the ABCs of Viral Hepatitis. CDC has also developed the Know Hepatitis B campaign to address the prevalence of hepatitis B among Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.

OMH Grants

  • HHS/Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health (OASH): Grant. Youth Engagement in Sports: Collaboration to Improve Adolescent Physical Activity and Nutrition (YES Initiative). This grant seeks to support projects that address the HHS priority to expand youth participation in sports and encourage regular physical activity, especially for youth populations with lower rates of sports participation and communities with limited access to athletic facilities or recreational areas.

Federal Grants

  • HHS/Indian Health Service (IHS): Grant. Office of Urban Indian Health Programs 4-in-1 Grants. Funding will be used to support the 4-in-1 health programs: health promotion and disease prevention, immunization, alcohol and substance abuse services, and mental health services. Eligibility is limited to Urban Indian Organizations. 
    Deadline is May 30. Learn more.

  • HHS/Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA): Grant. Rural Opioid Technical Assistance (ROTA) Grants. Grantees will facilitate the identification of model programs, develop and update materials related to the prevention, treatment and recovery activities for opioid use disorder, and ensure that high-quality training is provided.

  • HHS/Administration for Children and Families (ACF): Grant. Non-Profit Organization Child Care Grants. Supports child care services to American Indian or Native Hawaiian youth who currently are not receiving child care services funded by other Child Care and Development Fund formula grantees. Eligibility is limited to American Indian and Native Hawaiian non-profit organizations. 
    Deadline is June 24. American Indian Grant | Native Hawaiian Grant.

  • Alzheimer's AssociationPart the Cloud: Translational Research Funding for Alzheimer's Disease. Supports Phase 1 studies or pilot small-scale Phase 2a studies for repurposed drugs in normal individuals or individuals with preclinical or symptomatic Alzheimer's disease.

  • Robert Wood Johnson FoundationSports Award. This award recognizes sports teams, athletes and community-based organizations that use sports to catalyze and sustain changes to make communities healthier places to live, learn, work and play.

  • American College of Cardiology Accreditation Services2019 Quality Initiatives/Performance Improvement Project. Supports cardiovascular quality, improvement of cardiovascular care and patient outcomes.

Scholarships / Fellowships

  • National Hispanic Health Foundation (NHHF)Hispanic Health Professional Student Scholarship. This award is open to students enrolled full-time in accredited graduate programs of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, public health/policy or physician assistants. Applicants are not required to be Hispanic/Latino, but they must have an affinity for the health of Hispanic/Latino communities and an interest in participating in NHHF Scholars Alumni activities.

  • American Public Health Association (APHA) and the HHS/Office of Adolescent Health (OAH)Building on Strengths: An Asset-Based Approach to Adolescent Health. This webinar will provide an overview of the importance of positive or strengths-based approaches to adolescent health, as well as top challenges facing adolescents today and strategies for addressing these challenges.

  • HHS/OASH Region VII, in partnership with the Truman Medical Center and the Mother & Child Health Coalition: National Women's Health Week Webinar - Understanding Pregnancy and Complications. This webinar will discuss the unique challenges that women face during pregnancy, including postpartum issues and pain management in light of the opioid epidemic and psychosocial comorbidities.

  • United States Conference on AIDS (USCA): Registration is open for USCA 2019. This year's conference focus will be the plan to end the HIV epidemic in America. A limited number of scholarships will be available to cover USCA registration, accommodation at the conference hotel and a travel expenses gift card.

Focus on Eye Health National Summit: A Lifetime of Vision, July 17, National Press Club, Washington, DC
  • Prevent Blindness: Registration is open for the 8th Annual Focus On Eye Health National Summit, A Lifetime of Vision. This summit will feature discussions around health policy, surveillance, health promotion and state/community programs, which impact vision and eye health at different points of a person's lifetime.

  • Cross Cultural Health Care ProgramBridging the Gap Medical Interpreter Training. Students will learn skills in interpretation, national codes of ethics, culture and its impact on interpreting, medical terminology, health disparities and considerations for interpreting for LGBTQ+ communities and in mental health settings.

  • National Indian Health Board (NIHB): Environmental Health Discussion Session. To help elevate Indigenous knowledge and the expertise of Tribal leaders in addressing environmental concerns, NIHB is convening to discuss environmental health concerns in Tribal Nations and innovative ways Tribes are addressing these concerns. Remove the Risk logo
  • The HHS/Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has developed Remove the Risk, a safe opioid disposal outreach campaign that raises awareness of the serious dangers of keeping unused opioid pain medicines in the home and provides information about safe disposal of these medicines. FDA has created a toolkit with public service announcements, social media content, fact sheets and more for talking with others about safe opioid disposal. Learn more.

  • National Academy of Medicine (NAM): Call for organizations to join the Action Collaborative on Countering the U.S. Opioid Epidemic. This public-private partnership brings together members of government, communities, health systems, provider groups, industry, nonprofits and academia committed to sharing knowledge, aligning ongoing initiatives and advancing collective, multi-sector solutions to the opioid epidemic.   • The HHS/Office on Women's Health (OWH) recognizes May 12-18 as National Women's Health Week. For ideas on how to celebrate, social media messages and other resources, please visit the OWH website. Tag all social media posts with #NWHW and #FindYourHealth to share and find inspiration.

  • NAM Health and Medicine Division: Workshop proceedings. Health System Interventions to Prevent Firearms Injuries and Death. This workshop highlights firearm violence prevention research and programs as well as discussion of what health systems can do to address firearm violence in the United States. Learn more.

  • HHS/National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Eye Institute (NEI): Observational study. The Genetics of Inherited Eye Disease. NIH researchers seek child, adult and older adult volunteers with a known or suspected inherited eye disease. Study to be conducted at the NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda, MD. Learn more.

  • University of Maryland (UMD), in collaboration with the NIH National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) and the Thomas Jefferson University: Behavioral study. Screening TO Prevent ColoRectal Cancer (STOP CRC) among At-Risk Chinese and Korean American Primary Care Patients. Researchers seek Chinese and Korean American patients age 50-75 years old who are not up to date for colorectal cancer screening. Study to be conducted at UMD in College Park, MD. Learn more.

The fact sheet Analysis of Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Health Outcomes at Health Centers: UDS 2017 evaluates data from HRSA's 2017 Uniform Data System (UDS) report to highlight chronic conditions, such as hypertension and diabetes, among Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders (NHPI) treated in health centers. Published by the Association of Asian Pacific Community Health Organizations (AAPCHO), this brief report also shares significant findings and recommendations to help inform NHPI-serving health centers on how chronic disease is affecting the NHPI population, as well as methods for reducing and preventing the diseases.
