NIAID Announces Two Awards for Multi-Year Studies of Influenza Immunity in Children

NIAID has granted two awards to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center to study immunologic imprinting of influenza—the first encounter that a child's immune system has with the influenza virus, or a vaccine. This research addresses an important knowledge gap outlined in NIAID's strategic plan to develop a universal flu vaccine, and may yield important insight into how vaccines could provide broader, more durable protection.
