| Monday, June 24, 2019 NIAID scientists and their international colleagues have identified a new primary immune deficiency disease called IL-6R deficiency in two people with eczema, recurrent skin and lung infections, and reduced inflammatory responses. Their work, published online today in the Journal of Experimental Medicine, yields insights into the function of IL-6, a cell-signaling molecule involved in inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis. It also highlights potential side effects for treatments that block IL-6 signaling. |
