Ready, Set, PrEP logo
  • HHS: Ready, Set, PrEP. As part of Ending the HIV Epidemic (EHE): A Plan for America, this new national program provides HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) to thousands of people in the United States at no cost. To qualify for the Ready, Set, PrEP program an individual must: Test negative for HIV, have a valid prescription from their healthcare provider and not have insurance that covers prescription drugs. Federal Grants

  • HHS/National Institutes of Health (NIH): Research grant. Getting To Zero: Understanding HIV Viral Suppression and Transmission in the United States (R01 Clinical Trial Optional). Supports grants to improve understanding of viral suppression and HIV transmission using population-level epidemiology, data science and m/eHealth tools, and implementation science research.

  • HHS/NIH, National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH): Research grant. Practice-Based Research for Implementing Scalable Evidence-Based Prevention Interventions in Primary Care Settings (R01 Clinical Trial Optional). Supports practice-based research that tests the effectiveness of interventions which may impact mental health outcomes, including suicide behaviors and serious mental illness.
    Deadline for Letter of Intent (LOI) is January 10, 2020. Learn more.

  • HHS/Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC): Cooperative agreement. Assessing the Burden of Diabetes by Type in Children, Adolescents and Young Adults (DiCAYA). Supports surveillance to assess the incidence and prevalence of diabetes among children, adolescents and young adults and provide estimates by diabetes type, age, sex, race/ethnicity and geographic area.

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan FoundationCommunity Health Matching Grant Program. Supports Michigan-based non-profit community organizations that develop, implement and evaluate new approaches to health care issues.

  • American Medical Association Foundation2019-2020 Community Health Grants. Supports community-based organizations, including free health clinics, that target the prevention and reduction of type 2 diabetes and hypertension.

  • The Seattle Foundation: Neighbor to Neighbor (N2N) Fund. Supports grassroots efforts in South Seattle, White Center and Kent that increase the engagement, power and influence of community members affected by poverty and racial disparities.

  • HIV Medicine Association (HIVMA)2020-2021 HIVMA Clinical Fellowship. This 1-year program helps newly trained physicians gain HIV clinical experience working with medically underserved patient populations.

  • Trust for America's Health: New report. Addressing a Crisis: Cross-Sector Strategies to Prevent Adolescent Substance Use and Suicide. This report presents data on the link between substance use and suicide among adolescents, particularly among American Indian/Alaska Native youth, and provides prevention and policy recommendations.   • HHS/NIH, NIMH: Call for comments on the 2020 Strategic Plan for Research. NIH seeks feedback to help guide the next five years of basic, translational and clinical mental health research efforts and priorities at NIMH.

Clinical Trials

  • HHS/NIH, National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK): Observational study. Diabetes and Heart Disease Risk in Blacks. NIH researchers seek African Americans and Black African living in the U.S. age 18-65 years old as volunteers for a study on whether there is a relationship between sex and body size and the incidence of heart disease in African American men and women. Study to be conducted at the NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda, Md. Learn more.

  • Emory University, in collaboration with NIH NIMH: Behavioral study. Effectiveness of Empowerment Group Sessions for Treating Suicidal African American Women in Abusive Relationships. Researchers seek African American female volunteers age 18-64 years old who have been in an abusive relationship within 12 months prior to study entry, who have had a suicide attempt within 12 months prior to study entry and who seek services within the Grady Health System of Atlanta, Ga. Continuing Education

  • HHS/CDC and Medscape: Continuing Education - Tuberculosis Transmission Prevention. The goal of this activity is to describe updated National TB Controllers Association and CDC recommendations for screening, testing and treating U.S. health care personnel for tuberculosis to prevent transmission in healthcare settings. A free Medscape registration is required to complete this activity.

Internships / Mentoring

  • National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO)Overdose Prevention and Response Mentorship Program. This is an opportunity to participate in a new mentorship program with peer local health departments to learn, share experiences and implement a program related to community overdose prevention and response activities.

  • HHS/NIH, National Cancer Institute (NCI)Intramural Continuing Umbrella of Research Experiences (iCURE). @ The Knowledge Center - Recommended Reading

The book Ethnogeriatrics: Healthcare Needs for Diverse Populations covers numerous topics related to care for elders from diverse backgrounds. It provides background on the subject of ethnogeriatrics, as well as population trends and health disparities and diseases that occur among aging ethnic minorities. The book also offers suggestions for cultural competency and sensitivity behaviors among health care professionals working with older adults.
