Tobacco Pricing Strategies Tobacco use remains a leading cause of preventable chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease. This interactive map, developed by the LawAtlas Policy Surveillance Program, presents state-level statutes and regulations that impact tobacco pricing strategies, which have been shown to reduce smoking and tobacco consumption and can decrease tobacco-related illnesses and death. The outreach materials and social media messaging in this American Heart Month partner toolkit toolkit focus on how people can control high blood pressure and protect their heart. | Call for nominations for the HRSA Maternal and Child Health Bureau's Advisory Committee on Infant Mortality (ACIM) The ACIM provides advice to the Secretary of HHS on Department activities and programs directed at reducing infant mortality and improving the health status of pregnant women and infants. Deadline is February 24. |  | | Clinical Trials | Genomics, Environmental Factors and Social Determinants of Cardiovascular Disease in African-Americans Study (GENE-FORECAST) This is an observational study being conducted by the HHS National Institutes of Health (NIH) National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI). NIH researchers seek African American volunteers age 21-65 years old, including Hispanic-blacks. Study to be conducted at the NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda, Md. Positive Psychology Intervention for Spanish-speaking Hispanic/Latino Adults at Risk for Cardiovascular Disease This is a behavioral study being conducted by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, in collaboration with the NIH National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI). Researchers seek Hispanic/Latinx volunteers age 18 years or older who are fluent in English or Spanish. Study to be conducted at the St. Pius V Parish in Chicago, Ill. |  | | Workforce Development | 2020 Training Course in Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Epidemiology This is an intensive training program, offered by CityMatCH, in partnership with HRSA and the CDC, that combines lectures, discussion, hands-on exercises and other opportunities for individualized technical assistance for professionals who collect, process, analyze and report MCH data. It is intended for state and local health agency employees. June 22-26 in Albuquerque, NM. Deadline for application is March 1. Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) Waiver Training Offered by HHS HRSA, in partnership with the Providers Clinical Support System, this program is intended for physicians (MD or DO), nurse practitioners, certified nurse-midwifes and physician assistants with an active Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) number to dispense controlled substances. By completing MAT training and obtaining a Drug Addiction Treatment Act of 2000 Waiver, health professionals are eligible to receive National Health Service Corps (NHSC) award preference. | |  | | Knowledge Center | | | | Recommended Reading In recognition of National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NBHAAD) on February 7, the Knowledge Center recommends the fact sheet HIV and African American Gay and Bisexual Men published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This fact sheet evaluates the most recent data available in September 2019. Data included in this publication pertains to new HIV diagnoses broken down into various age groups and by race/ethnicity. In addition, a list of risk factors and risk reduction recommendations are included in this publication.
