Sickle Cell Disease Training And Mentoring Program (STAMP)

The STAMP Program, offered by the HHS Office of Minority Health (OMH) in partnership with the HHS Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), is a series of free web-based trainings for primary care providers that will cover various topics on the basics of sickle cell disease (SCD) care.

The HHS Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Office of Minority Health (CMS OMH) is requesting information to learn about opportunities to improve access, quality and outcomes for racial/ethnic minority women in rural communities before, during and after pregnancy. CMS OMH also requests comments on the readiness of rural providers to respond to obstetric emergencies in rural areas.

Health Observance: National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month

There's more than one colorectal cancer screening test. "Screen for Life" CDC campaign image.

HHS and the Colorectal Cancer Alliance recognize March as National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month.

Find social media messaging, print and digital publications, videos and other resources you or your organization can use to raise awareness at the Colorectal Cancer Alliance and Fight Colorectal Cancer websites.

Access colorectal cancer consumer information, statistics and research at the CDC website. The CDC has also developed the Screen for Life: National Colorectal Cancer Action Campaign, which informs men and women who are 50 years old or older about the importance of getting screened for colorectal cancer regularly.
   

Publication: Gender Violence among Latinas: Key Concepts and Cultural Considerations

This booklet, published by the National Hispanic and Latino Mental Health Technology Transfer Center, provides mental health clinicians an understanding of the main factors that influence Hispanic/Latina's vulnerability to gender, domestic and intimate partner violence, including the impact of cultural values like marianismo/machismo and factors such as immigration, anti-immigrant environments and socioeconomic status.

HIV Surveillance Report

Part of the CDC National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention's HIV Surveillance Report, this publication presents and interprets trends in HIV diagnoses for 2013–2017 and provides preliminary data by race/ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, area of residence and other factors.

ENGAGE Pilot Study: Promoting Participation and Health After Stroke

This behavioral study, sponsored by the University of Pittsburgh and NIH, seeks uninsured/underinsured volunteers age 18 years or older who suffered a chronic stroke within at least 3 months and have mild to moderate stroke-related disability. The study will examine the feasibility, acceptability, safety and estimated effects of ENGAGE, a community-based intervention to promote community participation after stroke. Study to be conducted at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. and the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Testing the Effectiveness of a Betel Nut Cessation Program (BENIT)

This behavioral study, sponsored by the University of Guam, the NIH National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the University of Hawaii Cancer Research Center, seeks betel nut chewers, age 18 years or older, who reside in Guam or Saipan to test the efficacy of an intensive group-based betel nut cessation program. Study to be conducted at the University of Guam in Mangilao Village, Guam.

Reimagine IndianS into MedicinE (RISE) Summer Academy 2020

This 6-week program, offered by Washington State University as part of the HHS Indian Health Service (IHS) Indians Into Medicine Program (INMED), is open to American Indian/Alaskan Native (AI/AN) enrolled members of federally recognized Tribes or descendants. It provides mentorship to AI/AN students who are interested in applying to medical school.

Hemoglobinopathy Counselor Training Course

This course, offered by the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, aims to prepare hemoglobinopathy clinicians, counselors, educators, social workers, nurses and other health professionals to work effectively with patients with hemoglobinopathies such as sickle cell disease by increasing their knowledge of hemoglobin disorders and variants.
