A Cancer Currents blog by NCI Deputy Director Dr. Dinah Singer was recently published to provide an update on some Cancer Moonshot activities. The Cancer MoonshotSM Workshop Highlights Recent Advances post features the progress of several Cancer Moonshot projects presented by investigators at a collaborative meeting held in the fall. We encourage you to read about these presentations that showcased areas such as the tumor microenvironment, novel drug targets, and emerging treatment approaches. We also invite you to visit the Cancer Moonshot webpage for more information about recent funding opportunity announcements (FOAs) that have been published for FY20.

In December of 2016, Congress passed the 21st Century Cures Act authorizing $1.8 billion of Cancer Moonshot funding over 7 years. To date, $1.195 billion of that amount has been appropriated to the National Cancer Institute (NCI). Through its continued commitment to implement the recommendations of the Blue Ribbon Panel (BRP), NCI remains dedicated to funding these scientific initiatives. In aggregate, NCI is now addressing all of the recommendations of the BRP and continues to demonstrate progress in each of these areas.
