Dear Hcis,
The Autism Society of America has worked hard to provide ongoing, immediate support for the autism community during the COVID-19 crisis.
This week kicks off National Autism Awareness Month, a celebratory occasion we have been preparing for over the past several months. We were looking forward to highlighting our NAAM efforts throughout April - however, in light of current events, our network remains committed to the autism community as we face extraordinary pressures during this global pandemic. Our nationwide response efforts continue to be our top priority to best serve individuals and families with autism, during this ongoing crisis.
- On Friday, March 20th, we released our COVID-19 toolkit, and continue to make updates with valuable resources. Recent changes include added information for Mental Health, and Modifying Routines. Additionally, we have also added a spanish COVID-19 storyboard.
- On Tuesday, March 31st at 4pm EST, we will continue the Autism Society: Coronavirus Information Series with "Continuing School Work & Education At Home" featuring Christine Reeve, Founder & Director of Reeve Autism Consulting, Marc Ellison, Executive Director of the West Virginia Autism Training Center, & Josiah Stephens, a student at Marshall University studying Mechanical Engineering. Please tune in to our Facebook to watch.
- Wednesday, April 1st, kicks off National Autism Awareness Month. Our #CelebrateDifferences campaign focuses on our efforts to spread awareness, promote acceptance, and ignite change. We look forward to highlighting our NAAM efforts throughout April.
- On Wednesday, April 1st at 7pm EST, we will continue to co-host a Facebook Live series with myHana, featuring Russell Lehmann, Speaker, Author, Poet and Advocate, and Kyle Weiss, Essayist, Writer and mentor to discuss "Life with Autism During COVID-19.
- Thursday, April 2nd, is World Autism Awareness Day - use our hashtag to tell us how you #CelebrateDifferences! Find out how you can get involved all month long.
