Dear Hcis,
The Autism Society of America received a generous donation from Make Waves, a non-profit that supports organizations focused on employment & community living for autistic adults, to distribute up to 50,000 masks to Direct Support Professionals (DSP) in high-risk areas. During the COVID-19 crisis, the shortage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) has left DSP and residents at-risk in congregate settings like group homes, and residential programs.
The first order of masks totals 29,000 and will be distributed to Autism Society Affiliates in New York, Pennsylvania, Washington D.C., Louisiana, Florida, California, and Washington. Each affiliate will distribute the masks to high-risk group home and community living settings where autistic individuals reside.
From the onset of this crisis, the Autism Society has worked quickly and efficiently to provide resources, information, and direct support to families in need. Our Public Policy team has played an integral role in the federal advocacy efforts related to the Coronavirus relief packages, and has urged policymakers to include DSP as essential workers needing personal protective equipment.
With this donation, we are able to better protect our most at-risk members of our community, and are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to work together with Make Waves. Please consider making a donation for $50 to support our COVID-19 relief efforts for the autism community.
My Best,

Christopher Banks
