One in seven mothers experiences a postpartum mental health condition.

Post-partum depression

Rural women and families face barriers to accessing adequate care for postpartum mental health problems, including cost, transportation, and childcare barriers.

To combat this, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) launched a challenge competition to improve postpartum mental health care for rural American families. The challenge seeks success stories and proposals to address postpartum mental health diagnoses and treatment in rural communities. Submissions are due by September 15, 2020 at 5:00 PM EST.

  • Winners in the success story category will receive $15,000
  • Winners in the program proposal category can win up to $50,000

Join AHRQ, along with the Office on Women's Health, on June 30 for a presentation on the challenge. Additional topics will include the incidence of postpartum depression and HHS' ongoing efforts to address postpartum depression and improve maternal health outcomes.
