When you're looking for online information on a health topic, it may seem simplest to search the internet. But this approach has drawbacks. It can give you a mix of trustworthy and not-so-trustworthy information.

It's better to start with an organized collection of high-quality resources and then search for your topic within that collection. For example:

  • For health topics in general, try MedlinePlus, sponsored by the National Library of Medicine.
  • For information on dietary supplements, try the website of the National Institutes of Health's Office of Dietary Supplements.
  • For information on complementary and integrative health, we suggest our own website as your starting point.

For your safety, don't rely on online resources alone when making health decisions. Talk with your health care provider.
