HHS Healthy People 2030 Released

Healthy People 2030, HHS ODPHP

The HHS Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP) has released Healthy People 2030, the fifth iteration of the Healthy People initiative. Building on knowledge gained over the past four decades, Healthy People 2030 sets national objectives to address the nation's most critical public health priorities. New objectives for this decade address emerging health issues like opioid use disorder and adolescents' use of e-cigarettes and flavored tobacco.

Demonstration to Increase Hydroxyurea Prescribing for Children with Sickle Cell Disease Through Provider Incentives

The Pacific Southwest Mental Health Technology Transfer Center has made its webinar, Culturally Responsive and Socially Distanced Suicide Prevention: Safety Planning and Other Resources in Pandemic Times, available online. This webinar highlights social determinants of health related to elevated suicide rates among AI/ANs, Hispanic/Latina youth, LGBTQ people and veterans.

The Rural Health Information Hub has created a Rural Healthcare Surge Readiness webpage that provides up-to-date and critical resources for rural healthcare systems preparing for and responding to a COVID-19 surge.

The HHS Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Healthy Schools has launched an online version of the Physical Education Curriculum Analysis Tool (PECAT), a free self-assessment and planning guide that helps school districts and schools conduct a clear, complete and consistent analysis of physical education curricula.

The online PECAT is aligned with the National Standards for K–12 Physical Education and has streamlined the assessment process with easy-to-use navigation and automated scoring.

In Utero Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation for Alpha-thalassemia Major (ATM)

This phase 1 clinical trial, sponsored by the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine, seeks pregnant women with male or female fetuses from 18 weeks and 0/7 days to 26 weeks 0/7 days gestation with a fetal diagnosis of alpha-thalassemia major. Study to be conducted at UCSF in San Francisco, Cali.

Learning Community: The HHS Telemedicine Hack

To support wide adoption of telemedicine during the COVID-19 pandemic, the HHS Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response has partnered with the ECHO Institute at the University of New Mexico and the Public Health Foundation's TRAIN Learning Network to deliver Telemedicine Hack, a free, virtual peer-to-peer learning community to accelerate telemedicine implementation.

Fellowship: Implementation Research in Mental Health and Substance Abuse Treatment

The University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine's Penn Center for Mental Health invites applications for its post-doctoral fellowship on mental health and substance abuse. This interdisciplinary training program provides an opportunity for social scientists with a Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent doctoral degree to improve their knowledge of implementation science, behavioral economics, public mental health systems, qualitative and quantitative research methods, and how to conduct research that can impact the needs of vulnerable citizens.

The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Health invites applications for a 12-month healthcare fellowship in both general primary care and LGBTQ subspecialty and specialty care.
