Dear Hcis,
As the summer comes to a close, the various "back-to-school" models have created new difficulties for many students and families. With lockdowns and other limitations still affecting most places across the country, our National Helpline continues to receive inquiries from parents who are desperate for respite services and more opportunities for social engagement.
With your support, we can continue to expand our services from our national office to be broader and more inclusive, and we are working towards ensuring every person affected by autism can receive the supports and assistance they need.
The Autism Society's comprehensive digital COVID-19 Toolkit provides back-to-school resources, including social stories, fact sheets, remote learning resources, preparing for long-term school closures, adjusting schedules and routines, and more. Our continued Coronavirus Information Series on Facebook Live features educators, students, collegiate self-advocates, and political analysts offering guidance as we approach the school year.
To date, our efforts have supported:
- 147,000 people have viewed our Coronavirus Information Series, featuring 23 episodes so far.
- 106,000 people have visited our COVID-19 toolkit resources.
- 53,000 masks were distributed to group homes and DSP workers, thanks to a donation from Make Waves.
- 3,300 people have downloaded our social stories, created in collaboration with our Panel of Professional Advisors.
Every child has the right to a free and appropriate public education, which is guaranteed by law as a pathway to growth and opportunity. There is so much more work that needs to be done to ensure that these opportunities reach the autism community.
Thank you again for your help in making our work possible.
Sincerely,

Christopher Banks
President & CEO
