Hispanic Heritage Month 2020 Twitter Chat, October 8, 2 pm EST, #HealthyLatinos

Join the HHS Office of Minority Health (OMH), the HHS Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the FDA Office of Minority Health and Health Equity (OMHHE) for a bilingual Twitter chat in observance of Hispanic Heritage Month. The chat will focus on highlighting healthy behaviors for the Hispanic/Latino community in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, including getting recommended vaccinations, such as the flu vaccine. The chat will also highlight HHS's efforts for improving diversity in clinical trials as a way to improve the health of racial and ethnic minority populations like the Hispanic/Latino community. To participate, please use the hashtag #HealthyLatinos.

Community Engagement Alliance Against COVID-19 Disparities (CEAL)

The HHS National Institutes of Health (NIH) Community Engagement Alliance Against COVID-19 Disparities (CEAL) offers guidance and resources to community leaders so they can connect Hispanic/Latino and other minority communities with important, accurate information on public health, COVID-19 vaccine clinical trials and the importance of being included in research studies. COVID-19 model

COVID-19 could elevate the risk of heart attacks in women, and cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death among Hispanics/Latinas. Salud America! at UT Health San Antonio has launched Juntos, We Can Stop COVID-19, a digital communication campaign in English and Spanish to help Hispanic/Latino families take action to slow the spread of coronavirus. The campaign features Hispanic/Latino culturally relevant and research based resources, bilingual fact sheets, infographics and video role model stories.

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine have created Conversations on COVID-19: Impacts on Communities of Color, a series of conversations with experts on a variety of topics related to minority health, health equity and COVID-19.

Request for Information: Tribal Consultation on COVID-19 Vaccination Planning

HHS, through CDC, initiated Tribal Consultations to seek input from tribal leaders on COVID-19 vaccination planning in Indian Country. HHS seeks comments on how a COVID-19 vaccine should be distributed to AI/AN communities, whether through state and local jurisdictions, or through the HHS Indian Health Service (IHS), and how tribes can support this effort.

Tribal leaders can provide input and recommendations in writing by submitting comments to consultation@hhs.gov.
Deadline is October 9.
