Monday, October 26, 2020 In a JAMA Viewpoint published today, Dr. Fauci and NIAID colleagues note that a return to normalcy will require widespread adoption of masks and other effective and inexpensive interventions to prevent SARS-CoV-2 spread, including physical distancing, hand hygiene, prompt testing (with isolation and contact tracing) and limits on crowds and gatherings. The authors note that these "low-tech" prevention modalities will still be needed after a COVID-19 vaccine is initially available as it will take at least several months for enough people to be vaccinated to confer herd immunity. |
