| A multinational, NIAID-funded study has revealed that a "minimal monitoring" approach to delivering hepatitis C treatment is safe and results in similarly high cure rates as standard approaches. Hepatitis C treatment programs typically involve frequent laboratory and clinical monitoring, making them challenging to optimally implement in resource-limited areas. The study, involving 400 participants in five countries on four continents, evaluated a treatment delivery approach that minimizes in-person clinic appointments and laboratory tests during 12 weeks of treatment with antiviral drugs. This approach safely achieved a 95% hepatitis C cure rate among study participants, researchers reported at The Liver Meeting Digital Experience (TLMdx). |
