This Request for Information (RFI) seeks public comments on the biospecimen submission, access, and maintenance processes for the NIMH Repository and Genomics Resource (NRGR). NRGR is a collaborative biosample repository that plays a key role in facilitating psychiatric genetic research by providing researchers access to samples and data from more than 200,000 well characterized, high quality case and control samples from a wide range of psychiatric illnesses. To date, the NRGR has distributed almost one million biospecimens to more than 450 investigators world-wide and has supported more than 800 publications, including many high-profile papers in psychiatric genetics. The recent growth in NIMH funded genomics projects from a few thousand participants to tens of thousands is thrilling. But the growth in costs that comes with this expansion means taking samples from all NIMH funded projects at no cost to our NIMH grantees is no longer sustainable. NIMH invites your feedback on any opportunities or challenges related to the following topics, as well as potential areas and opportunities to improve efficiency: - NRGR Biospecimen Submission process
- NRGR Biospecimen Access
- NRGR Management
NIMH also welcomes general comments on any other topics related to NRGR biospecimen submission, access, and management. Identifying genetic risk for mental illness is critical for understanding diseases like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, and improving diagnosis and treatment options. Your feedback will help ensure that the NRGR can continue to provide timely access to data and biomaterials for human genetic research that stimulates research and development and improves the lives of individuals and their families affected by these disorders. |
