Improving Postpartum Care Learning Collaborative

CMCS is pleased to announce the following training opportunity:

CMCS has launched the Maternal and Infant Health Initiative "Improving Postpartum Care Learning Collaborative" to support state Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) agencies to improve maternal and infant health. The Learning Collaborative consists of two parts: a webinar series that begins in January 2021, and an affinity group that will launch in April 2021.

All interested individuals from state Medicaid and CHIP agencies, managed care plans, providers, state health departments, and other public health entities are invited to register for one or more webinars in the series.

Webinar #1: Maintaining Coverage and Access to Care during the Postpartum Period

After a brief introduction of CMCS' Postpartum Care Learning Collaborative, this webinar will describe strategies to ensure coverage and access to care during the postpartum period for women at high risk of postpartum complications. We will describe state best practices for ensuring coverage and access in the postpartum period including beyond 60 days after delivery. We will also explore strategies for improving the continuity of coverage for postpartum women. We will review state best practices for increasing postpartum care visit attendance and for reducing disparities in attendance by race and ethnicity.

Webinar #2: Improving the Content of Care during the Postpartum Period
February 17, 2021 at 2:30 p.m. ET

This webinar will focus on the changing concept of postpartum care and the emphasis on risk reduction for maternal health, both in the immediate postpartum period and in the extended postpartum period up to one year after delivery. We will present state best practices to improve the content of care including contraceptive care and management of chronic diseases as well as opportunities for value based care. We will highlight the need to address risks in specific populations, including older women and women from racial and ethnic minority populations.

Webinar #3: Models of Women-Centered Care
March 11, 2021 at 2:30 p.m. ET

This webinar will focus on strategies for providing women-centered care for Medicaid and CHIP beneficiaries and offer state examples of how these models can improve postpartum care for women at high risk of postpartum complications. We will discuss the use of doulas and other support staff, team-based care, group care, and home visiting. We will also discuss payment strategies to support these care models.
