April is Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) Awareness Month. Below are some complementary health approaches that have been promoted or studied for this condition. 

  • Some studies suggest that mind and body practices, including hypnotherapy, may help.

  • Probiotics may improve IBS symptoms, but there are uncertainties about the most helpful species, strains, preparations, and doses.

  • Peppermint oil capsules may be modestly helpful in reducing some IBS symptoms.
