Post-Pandemic Re-Integration and Assessment of Community Interactions June 22, 2021 from 1:30-3:00 PM ET The purpose of this training is to assist states to successfully re-integrate individuals receiving home and community-based services (HCBS) and supports into their communities by redefining the baseline for community access as the restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic are relaxed or eliminated. In this training we will: - Share pertinent CMS guidance from the State Health Official Letter of December 22, 2020: Planning for the Resumption of Normal State Medicaid, CHIP and Basic Health Program Operations Upon Conclusion of the Public Health Emergency and the January 15, 2021 General Transition Planning Tool;
- Review some of the changes that will need to occur as the flexibilities approved for use during the pandemic begin to unwind including identifying the most selected flexibilities used by states during the pandemic which could potentially be incorporated into 1915(c) waivers going forward; and
- Identify the key strategic factors included in a state's assessment process to plan-fully ensure that individuals can re-connect with their communities in accordance with their own choices and preferences taking into account the dignity of risk and including the most current, appropriate methods for delivery of HCBS and supports based on those individual preferences.
Following the presentation, webinar participants will have the opportunity to take part in a question and answer session receiving feedback from CMS. _____________________________________________________________________________________ Upcoming CMS Summit: Supporting Adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) and Their Aging Caregivers The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) invites you to attend Supporting Adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) and Their Aging Caregivers – a two-day virtual summit to share promising practices and collaborate on solutions for addressing challenges faced by state Medicaid agencies and their partners in supporting adults with I/DD and their aging parents and caregivers. As the population of aging adults with I/DD continues to grow, and people with I/DD live longer, many adults outlive their family caregivers. In addition, as caregivers age, they may be less able to provide care for their family members with I/DD and may have their own support needs. Many stakeholders can help support adults with I/DD and their aging caregivers, but state Medicaid agencies are uniquely positioned to lead changes. This webinar is open to the public, will focus on strategies for state Medicaid agencies and their partner agencies, and will cover the following topics: · Coordination across State Agencies · Person- and Family-Centered Systems By the end of this series of interactive webinars, participants will: 1. Convene with state agencies, federal agency representatives, national associations, local agencies, individuals with I/DD, their parents and caregivers, and other stakeholders to share promising practices and collaborate on solutions for addressing challenges faced by state Medicaid programs and their partners in supporting adults with I/DD living with and cared for by aging parents and caregivers. 2. Identify and discuss the current needs and interests in the field. 3. Emphasize participation and engagement through interactive exercises, discussion of current trends, challenges, research questions, and improvement strategies, and sharing of resources, resulting in learning that can be applied in day-to-day work.
