Today is World AIDS Day! Forty years since the first AIDS cases were reported, HIV still threatens the world. Today, the world is off track from delivering on the shared commitment to end AIDS by 2030 not because of a lack of knowledge or tools to beat AIDS, but because of structural inequalities that obstruct proven solutions to HIV prevention and treatment. Annually on December 1st, we commemorate World AIDS Day and reflect upon our worldwide response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. This year's theme— Ending the HIV Epidemic: Equitable Access, Everyone's Voice—highlights the Biden-Harris Administration's strong commitment to ending the HIV epidemic globally by addressing health inequities and ensuring the voices of people with HIV are central in all our work. World AIDS Day was first observed in 1988. Each year, organizations and individuals across the world bring attention to the HIV epidemic, endeavor to increase HIV awareness and knowledge, speak out against HIV stigma, and call for an increased response to move toward Ending the HIV Epidemic in the U.S. 2021 World AIDS Day Events Wednesday, December 1 Time: 2:30 PM EST White House World AIDS Day Livestream Wednesday, December 1 Time: 11:00 AM EST HRSA's World AIDS Day 2021 Commemoration Event This virtual event will highlight stories from people with lived experience through storytelling and artistic expression.
