| January 12, 2022 | View as a webpage |  |        | OMH Announces the Theme for National Minority Health Month 2022  The HHS Office of Minority Health (OMH) is proud to announce the 2022 theme for National Minority Health Month: Give Your Community a Boost! Throughout April, OMH will promote #BoostYourCommunity, a social and digital media campaign to empower audiences to debunk misinformation and support vaccination in their communities.
Activities and materials throughout the month will highlight the overall message that COVID-19 vaccines and boosters are critical to ending the COVID-19 pandemic in one's community and the importance of combating COVID-19 and vaccine misinformation. Equally important are the existing recommendations to prevent COVID transmission, such as physical distancing, use of well-fitting masks, adequate ventilation, and avoidance of crowded indoor spaces. | March 11: Deadline Extended to Nominate Delegates to The Center TAC  The period to nominate candidates to serve as delegates for the Center for Indigenous Innovation and Health Equity (The Center) Tribal Advisory Committee (TAC) has been extended. The Center TAC will help ensure OMH has Tribal input critical for the Center's success and effectiveness. The Center TAC will have 16 delegates, one from each of the 12 geographic areas served by the Indian Health Service (IHS), and four national at-large members.
The Center TAC delegates must be: (1) elected Tribal officials from a federally recognized Tribe acting in their official capacity as elected officials of their Tribe, with authority to act on behalf of the Tribe; or (2) individuals designated by an elected Tribal official.
Deadline has been extended to March 11. | Public Health Emergency Resources: The Minority Health Social Vulnerability Index and Free e-Learning Program  Applying a health equity lens when responding to public health emergencies such as the COVID-19 pandemic or recent tornadoes, wildfires, and other natural disasters can help us better support communities at the greatest risk for impact.
Use the Minority Health Social Vulnerability Index (Minority Health SVI), developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and OMH, to aid emergency efforts. Also, the OMH Cultural Competency Program for Disaster Preparedness and Crisis Response is a free, online educational program accredited for disaster and emergency personnel. | |  | | Funding | | Alice F. The scope of the supplemental issue is the significance and value of public-private partnerships (non-profit, local, state or national government, corporate, or academic) to advance health equity and/or address the social determinants of health. The issue also will identify potential directions for future work in this area.
Deadline for abstracts is February 1. | |  | | Clinical Trials | Cervical Cancer Prevention for Black Adults This study, sponsored by the University of Kentucky and the National Cancer Institute (NCI), seeks Black/African American and African women ages 30-65 years old who have not had a pap smear within the last three years or no pap smear/human papillomavirus (HPV) co-test within the past five years. The goal of this study is to develop and pilot test an intervention (Health is Wealth: A Cervical Health Program) designed to promote screening and reduce perceived barriers to cervical cancer screening. The study will be carried out at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky.
Project Self in Improving Cervical Cancer Screening Rates in Hispanic and African American Women This study, sponsored by the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and the NCI, seeks Black/African American and Hispanic/Latina women ages 30-65 years old. Project Self seeks to improve cervical cancer screening rates by providing HPV self-collection kits, education, counseling, and navigation. The study will be carried out at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. |  | | Workforce Development | Mississippi Rural Dentists Scholarship Program The University of Mississippi Medical Center Mississippi Rural Dentists Scholarship Program (MRDSP) is a longitudinal program that identifies rural Mississippi college students who aspire to practice general or pediatric dentistry in rural areas of Mississippi. The MRDSP has three phases: undergraduate (college sophomores), dental school, and initial practice support.
