Research suggests that some complementary health approaches may be modestly helpful in reducing depression symptoms; for others, benefits are uncertain or there are safety concerns.

  • Acupuncture, music therapy, and yoga have shown promise for helping to reduce symptoms of depression.

  • Some research suggests that St. John's wort may be helpful for depression symptoms, but not all studies agree. There's an important safety concern about this herb: it can interact in dangerous ways with a variety of medicines.
