NEW! Cultural Competency Deployment Refresher for Public Health Service Officers

NEW e-Learning program: Cultural Competency Deployment Refresher for U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps.

Are you getting ready for deployment? Do you know a Public Health Service officer preparing for a new deployment assignment? The HHS Office of Minority Health (OMH)'s new Cultural Competency Deployment Refresher Program can help you and your fellow officers provide services responsive to every individual's health needs and preferences!

Although Public Health Service officers receive initial basic training on the National Standards for Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) in Health and Health Care, a quick CLAS refresher can be helpful immediately before leaving for a new deployment. To meet this need, OMH developed the Cultural Competency Deployment Refresher Program, with input from Public Health Service officers. This 30-minute e-learning program covers culturally and linguistically appropriate services, effective communication, and on the ground services.

Let's Take Charge! Help Make Lupus Research More Diverse

Illustration shows several racial and ethnic minority people

Lupus is an autoimmune disease that disproportionately impacts racial and ethnic minority populations, particularly women. About nine out of 10 people diagnosed with lupus are women aged 15 to 44

We need diverse participation in lupus research to help ensure that products and treatments for patients living with lupus are safe and effective. Let's Take Charge!, an initiative from OMH and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Office of Minority Health and Health Equity (FDA OMHHE), seeks to make lupus research more inclusive and diverse. Visit the Let's Take Charge! website for campaign resources, including patient stories and social media messages.
