More than half of the American population has diabetes or prediabetes, making it likely that a woman in your life is already struggling with the disease. And the scary truth is—diabetes carries serious health risks for women:
• Women with diabetes are more likely to have a heart attack, and at a younger age, than women without diabetes.
• The risk of depression, blindness, and kidney disease increases in women with diabetes.
• Some women with diabetes have less interest in sex because of depression or changes in blood glucose (blood sugar) levels that can leave them feeling tired or irritable.
This is why the American Diabetes Association® is fighting to do the groundbreaking research vital to improving treatments and finally finding a cure for diabetes. But we urgently need your help to keep these research programs going. As Women's History Month comes to a close, please consider remembering the most important woman in your life and giving a gift in her honor or memory—or simply stand with us and ALL women who deserve to live a life free of diabetes and its burdens. |
