The CDC has updated its COVID-19 booster recommendations: immunocompromised individuals and people over the age of 50 who received an initial booster dose at least four months ago are now eligible for another mRNA booster (Pfizer or Moderna) to increase their protection against severe disease.

Self-monitoring your blood pressure is power! With nearly half of all adults in the U.S. having high blood pressure, the American Heart Association National Hypertension Control Initiative is encouraging everyone to "Get Down With Your Blood Pressure."

The "Get Down With Your Blood Pressure" campaign raises awareness about high blood pressure and its connection to COVID-19, empowering everyone to learn more about their numbers and the importance of accurately self-monitoring blood pressure. Whether you have five minutes or an hour, there's an asset available for you!

Call for Comments on the Proposed 2022 CDC Clinical Practice Guideline for Prescribing Opioids

The CDC has posted a draft of the updated Clinical Practice Guideline for Prescribing Opioids for public comment. To help assure the guideline's integrity and credibility, CDC seeks input from patients, caregivers, experts, clinicians, and the public. The guideline is intended to improve communication between clinicians and patients, improve pain treatment safety and effectiveness, and reduce the risks of opioid use disorder, overdose, and death.
Deadline for comments is April 11.

Resource: National Environmental Public Health Tracking Network

Clinical Trials

Natural History of the Human Biological Response to Environmental Exposure and Injury

This study, sponsored by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), seeks volunteers age 18 years or older who live in Durham, Raleigh, Chapel Hill, and other cities close to the NIEHS Clinical Research Unit. Researchers will collect biological and environmental samples and other data to better understand how injury and inflammation are caused by environmental exposures such as pollution, diet, and stress. The study will be carried out at the NIEHS Clinical Research Unit in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina.

Mamma Mia App for Maternal Health

This study, sponsored by the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Nursing, Arizona State University, and the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), seeks Black women less than 25 weeks pregnant. This study will test Mamma Mia, an app that provides women with resources for well-being during pregnancy and postpartum. The study will be carried out online.

The HRSA National Health Service Corps (NHSC) Scholarship Program awards scholarships to students pursuing eligible primary care health professions training. In return, scholars commit to providing primary care health services in Health Professional Shortage Areas for a minimum of two years.

This week, the OMH Knowledge Center is highlighting some recommended viewing! The National Teleconference on Public Health Service Approach to Closing the Minority Health Gap: A Discussion on Violence in Minority Communities took place on January 25, 1991 and was organized by the HHS U.S. Public Health Service and OMH. The teleconference consisted of panel discussions focused on minority health, health disparities, and public health led by representatives from federal agencies and other agencies.

This teleconference is broken into three videos, and all are available for free through an archived repository.
