National Minority Health Month: Give Your Community a Boost! Image shows three Pacific Islander women

For this year's National Minority Health Month (NMHM), the HHS Office of Minority Health (OMH) is highlighting events hosted by partners who are raising awareness about the importance of improving the health of racial and ethnic minorities and American Indian and Alaska Native communities and reducing health disparities.

Give Your Community a Boost by attending one of the many events found on the NMHM website. Check back frequently throughout the month as we continue to add more events from our partners.

Free and accredited e-Learning Program: CLAS in Maternal Healthcare

Free & accredited E-Learning Program: CLAS in Maternal Care. HHS. OMH. Black Maternal Health Week.

More women of color than white women report feeling mistreated, ignored, or dismissed by their prenatal providers. OMH has a free and accredited e-learning program for maternal healthcare providers. The program is designed to develop providers' skills related to culturally and linguistically appropriate services (CLAS) as a strategy to increase the quality of care for women of all backgrounds.

LTBI/TB Screening, Testing, and Treatment Needs Assessment for AAPI and Native Hawaiian-Serving Community Health Centers

Asian American, Pacific Islander (AAPI), and Native Hawaiian populations are disproportionately impacted by tuberculosis (TB). The Tuberculosis Elimination Alliance invites AAPI and Native Hawaiian-serving community health centers in the U.S. and U.S. territories to complete a 30-minute survey on the challenges and innovations of their latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) and TB practices. Survey results will inform the development of comprehensive and population specific LTBI/TB testing and treatment.
Deadline to complete the survey is April 22.

Mindfulness for African American Mothers with a Preterm or
Full-term Infant (MAAPI Study)

This study, sponsored by Loyola University and the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR), seeks Black women ages 18-55 years old. This clinical trial will evaluate the effectiveness of a culturally tailored intervention to decrease maternal psycho-behavioral symptoms and improve mother/infant bonding. The study will be carried out at the Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois.

Improving COVID-19 Vaccine Uptake Among Black and Latino Youth

This study, sponsored by Nemours Children's Health System, the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS), the University of Delaware, and ChristianaCare, seeks youth ages 0-21 years of age and their caregivers. The study will be carried out at the Nemours Children's Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware.

NAACP Inspire Initiative: Write Her Future Scholarship

The NAACP Write Her Future Scholarship is open to Black students or students of color who identify as female and will be enrolling in a four-year academic institution. Applicants must be current participants in an active NAACP Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO) program, which includes the fields of medicine and health, biology/microbiology, and chemistry/biochemistry. 
Deadline for application is May 20, by 6:00 p.m. ET.

Salud Rural Maternal Child Health Fellowship

The Salud Rural Maternal Child Health Fellowship prepares board-certified family physicians for practice in rural, underserved, or migrant farmworker settings through training in obstetrics, neonatal complications, and advanced gynecologic procedures. Fellows will be primarily placed at the Salud Medical Center in Woodburn, Oregon, the Lancaster Family Health Center in Salem, Oregon, and the Legacy Silverton Medical Center in Silverton, Oregon.
