New Notice of Funding Opportunity from OMH: Community-Driven Approaches to Address Factors Contributing to Structural Racism in Public Health

New FY2022 FOA: Community-Driven Approaches to Address Factors Contributing to Structural Racism in Public Health

The HHS Office of Minority Health (OMH) solicits applications to support the development and implementation of new policies and innovative practices to address policies that may create or perpetuate health disparities and may contribute to structural racism. OMH expects recipients to address health disparities among racial and ethnic minority populations, and to demonstrate the impact of those efforts on outcomes and the overarching goal of advancing health equity.

This initiative will build upon the OMH-funded FY2021 Framework to Address Health Disparities through Collaborative Policy Efforts Initiative. In doing so, recipients will utilize and build on the tools developed under the coordinating center established under a cooperative agreement with the National Network of Public Health Institutes (NNPHI). Recipients under this announcement will utilize the developed assessment framework and tools from the coordinating center and other established frameworks/tools. Recipients will demonstrate the effectiveness of these tools to increase the capacity of community-led teams to identify policy impacts that may create or perpetuate health disparities by contributing to structural racism.

Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. HHS OMH.

Although health inequities for Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AA and NHPI) communities are directly related to historical and current discrimination and social injustice, one of the most modifiable factors is the lack of culturally and linguistically appropriate services that are respectful of and responsive to the cultural and linguistic needs of AA and NHPI individuals.

Visit the OMH AA and NHPI Heritage Month website to find health information in various AA and NHPI languages and learn about ways you can better serve and communicate with AA and NHPI patients by implementing the National Standards for Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services in Health and Health Care

Helping Families Find Formula During the Infant Formula Shortage

HHS logo

To address infant formula shortages in the wake of Abbott Nutrition's voluntary recall of certain powdered infant formulas, the federal government is working to ensure that infant formula is safe and available for families across the country, including specialty formulas for older children and adults with rare metabolic diseases.

HHS has published a fact sheet, in English and Spanish, that includes information on community resources such as local Community Action Agencies, breast milk banks, and the United Way 2-1-1 hotline. Families are encouraged to reach out to these organizations if they are unable to readily find formula.
