For centuries, AA and NHPIs have shaped and strengthened the fabric of this nation. Yet many AA and NHPI communities continue to face barriers to prosperity and safety, including xenophobic violence, as well as the disproportionate health and economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. This month, the HHS Office of Minority Health (OMH) will celebrate AA and NHPI communities' journey of resilience and pay tribute to generations of AA and NHPIs who paved the way for greater opportunity. We also recommit ourselves to confronting discrimination and hate in all their forms – so that together, we can create an America that is truly equitable and inclusive for all. Positive Activities for Asian American Cancer Patients and Caregivers This study, sponsored by the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and NIH, seeks Asian American volunteers ages 25-70 years old who are actively undergoing cancer therapies such as chemotherapy or radiation. The study will be carried out at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. |  | | Workforce Development | APF Violet and Cyril Franks Scholarship: Stigma and Mental Illness Research shows that AA and NHPI communities have lower levels of mental health help-seeking due to the stigma associated with mental illness. The APF Violet and Cyril Franks Scholarship supports graduate-level scholarly projects on understanding and reducing the stigma associated with mental illness.

APAICS Youth Leadership Academy The APAICS Youth Leadership Academy, in partnership with the Close Up Foundation, is a week-long leadership development and enrichment program for AA and NHPI high school students. It provides students the opportunity to learn about government and public policy issues impacting the AA and NHPI community and how AA and NHPI youth can be more involved in the political process.
Program dates are August 14-19 in Washington, DC.
Applications accepted on a rolling basis. White House Initiative on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians,
and Pacific Islanders (WHIAANHPI) Internships WHIAANHPI offers full-time internships at the HHS Office for Civil Rights (OCR). Interns will assist OCR staff on AA and NHPI issues and priorities, including anti-Asian bias and hate, COVID-19 recovery, capacity building, civil rights, data disaggregation, economic development, education, health, language access, workforce diversity, and more. Applicants for intern positions must be diploma, certificate, or degree-seeking undergraduate or graduate students.
