November is Native American Heritage Month, a time to celebrate the rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories of American Indians and Alaska Natives (AI/AN). Throughout the month, the HHS Office of Minority Health (OMH) will continue its mission to improve the health of racial and ethnic minorities by raising awareness about the health disparities impacting the AI/AN communities.

Puerto Rico COVID-19 Vaccine Uptake Study 

This study, sponsored by the NIH with the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD), seeks participants to evaluate the effectiveness of an educational program to increase the proportion of men and women aged 21 years and older who have received the COVID-19 booster vaccine. The study will be carried out at the Outpatient Clinic, School of Medicine, University of Puerto Rico, in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Prospective Natural History Study of Smoking, Immune Cell Profiles, Epigenetics and COVID-19

This study, sponsored by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), seeks healthy individuals ages 30-55 who are current smokers, or non-smokers who may potentially contract COVID-19. The study will be carried out at the NIEHS Clinical Research Unit (CRU) in Triangle Park, North Carolina.

2023-2024 Commonwealth Fund Fellowship in Minority Health Policy

The one-year fellowship at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health is for physicians from historically-marginalized groups who have completed residency in the United States. Fellows in the program will receive leadership training, mentoring from Harvard senior faculty, access to Harvard resources, and networking/career development.
