| The NIH Office of Nutrition Research (ONR) is pleased to announce the release of an interagency Request for Information (RFI) on Food is Medicine Research Opportunities. This government-wide collaboration includes 12 federal agencies and offices along with 16 NIH institutes, centers, and offices. The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) invites input on research opportunities and best practices for Food is Medicine research programs. Specifically, NIMH invites input on potentially mutable and measurable mechanisms by which food-as-medicine interventions might results in better mental health. The RFI is an example of many ongoing government-wide efforts to accomplish the goals within the Biden-Harris Administration National Strategy on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health that resulted from the September 2022 White House Conference. The goal of the National Strategy is to end hunger and increase healthy eating and physical activity, while reducing related disparities by 2030, so that fewer Americans experience diet-related diseases like type-2-diabetes, obesity, and heart disease. |
