NIAID Marks World Malaria Day

Today, on World Malaria Day, NIAID reaffirms its commitment to conducting and supporting critical research on malaria, which affects hundreds of millions of people worldwide. With symptoms ranging from fever and chills in uncomplicated malaria, to organ failure and death in severe malaria, this mosquito-borne parasitic disease inflicts a tremendous burden, especially on children living in tropical regions of the globe. The challenges of controlling malaria are formidable, but through longstanding support of a broad research portfolio, NIAID joins the global research community in working to end malaria.
