Dear Hcis,
According to the U.S. Department of Education, over 7.3 million students in the U.S. are served under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Approximately 11% of them receive education under the eligibility of Autism. And because not all students have IEPs and many with disabilities go undiagnosed, the actual percentage of students with special needs is much higher.
More parents and caregivers than ever face the challenges of navigating an educational system that often isn't well equipped to serve students with Autism and other disabilities.
That's why our efforts to provide education resources and support throughout the year are so important.
As we begin the 2023-24 school year, will you please support the Autism Society of America with a contribution today?
This August and all year long, the Autism Society offers:
- Support for parents and caregivers regarding Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Assistance for teachers via training, materials, links, and other resources.
- Resources on transitional services and planning to address education, employment and, independent living.
- Guidance in understanding educational versus medical assessments.
- Information to guide individuals and families as they move beyond the K-12 education system.
In addition, trained Information & Referral Specialists at our Autism Society National Helpline (800.328.8476) provide local, regional, and national resources and support options.
We receive thousands of inquiries each month. With your generosity, we can continue to answer these urgent requests every time to provide students, parents, caregivers, and teachers with empathetic support. |
