World Mosquito Day 2023—How Mathematical Modeling Reveals the Link Between Climate Change and Mosquito-Borne Diseases

This year, to mark World Mosquito Day on August 20, the NIAID Now blog is showcasing the work of Luis Chaves, Ph.D., a 2023 Scholar with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Climate Change and Health Initiative, a collaborative effort across NIH Institutes and Centers. Dr. Chaves studies how climate change impacts mosquitoes and the diseases they carry. Mosquito-borne diseases include some of the most impactful human diseases worldwide, such as malaria and dengue—and as global temperatures increase, mosquitoes and the pathogens they transmit are expanding their range.
