October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month. So, I'd like to take just a minute of your time today to share news about our efforts to expand job opportunities for people with Autism — and ask for your support of this truly life-changing work. Each year, upwards of 112,000 teens with Autism enter adulthood. Yet experts estimate that almost half of 25-year-olds on the spectrum have never gained employment. Many job seekers with Autism face longstanding barriers to employment and stereotypes about what kinds of jobs are “good” for them. Employers often don’t understand that Autistic individuals can bring unique skills and capabilities to the workplace if given support to achieve their full potential. To change this landscape, we’ve launched our groundbreaking Employment Initiative to foster understanding and empathy, and to forge new paths toward inclusive and equal opportunities. Our efforts focus on collaboration and the Fulfillment Mindset — emphasizing dignity, understanding, and respect for Autistic individuals in the workplace. But Hcis, we need your support to grow our impact nationwide.
