Monday, January 8, 2024 The rapid DNA-RNA hybrid immunoassay developed by NIAID scientists was used to detect the RNA of Bacillus anthracis, shown here as a lateral flow test. (Credit: NIAID/Dr. Ankur Bothra) A study of a novel lab test found it detected the RNA of several pathogens, including Bacillus anthracis, Toxoplasma gondii and SARS-CoV-2. NIAID researchers developed the test, a rapid DNA-RNA hybrid capture immunoassay that uses the S9.6 antibody to detect the RNA of pathogens. In a new article in Scientific Reports, the authors explain that the assay is sensitive, versatile, and requires fewer resources than the nucleic acid-based tests often used as diagnostic tools for clinical and public health purposes. |
