Diabetes hits close to home for me. I've had type 2 diabetes for 18 years, and several family members have had it. My brother was diagnosed as a child and has lived with the disease for over 50 years. And my grandfather, W.W. Estes, passed away from diabetes complications. Thankfully, diabetes treatment and management have come a long way over the years, and I'm very grateful to the American Diabetes Association® (ADA) for the many ways they're improving the lives of people with the disease. Some of that includes funding medical research, which has rendered both hope and progress. They also provide support and education for patients and their families, and they're vocal advocates for those who are battling diabetes. I know firsthand how diabetes has impacted the Estes family. And that's why I'm glad that the ADA is one of the worthy charities supported through our company's annual Open Heart, Open Road Employee Directed Giving Campaign. Employee health and safety are top priorities at Estes Express Lines, which is why we also offer resources to help our teammates maintain a healthy lifestyle, prevent diabetes, and eliminate unnecessary medications. Estes even provides them with access to a free app that supports both mental and physical wellness. It's my hope that diabetes will one day be a thing of the past. Until then, I'm proud to support the ADA with this match campaign, which can make a real difference in so many lives. |
