Dear Hcis, We’re at the halfway mark of Autism Acceptance Month, and responses to our Autism Is campaign have been incredible. I invite you to explore our community’s experiences and consider sharing your own story.  Donate The Autism Is campaign is an opportunity to educate, advocate, and highlight the diverse experiences and support needs across the Autism community — from those who achieve significant independence, to those who succeed in 24/7 supported care.    We’ve already received a flood of truly heartfelt responses that cover the full spectrum of the Autistic experience — and we’re only at the mid-point of Autism Acceptance Month.  A few days ago, Darrius shared: “Autism Is resilience. It means overcoming internal and external obstacles and moving forward toward your next goal.”  Edward shared: "This journey has its ups and downs, filled with learning, decisions, and occasional setbacks. Staying balanced, seeking support, and embracing the experience will help it continue beyond our lives as parents." Through another perspective, Rhonda shared: “Autism Is beautiful. I am a late-diagnosed African American Autistic woman. Finding out that I was Autistic has been like a new awakening that has been amazing. I have a new lens to experience my life, my senses and how I belong.”  Our Autism Is campaign showcases the mosaic of experiences that encompass individuality, community, connection, and more. I hope it serves as a reminder that we are all seeking connection, meaningful support, and that your experience is valid.
