Autism Is Diverse

Autism Is unique to each one of us.

Dear Hcis,

Autism Is unique to each one of us. Everyone’s story is different, and the experience of Autism Is not one thing; it is variations on a theme in which our human experiences are simultaneously distinct and yet intrinsically, beautifully united. We are the spectrum.

Today is Autism Acceptance Day — a globally recognized moment to affirm, promote, and celebrate the human rights, fundamental value, and freedoms of every Autistic individual.

Autism Is an identity, a culture, a way of life. It comes with opportunities and challenges, moments of joy and of struggle. In the past, Autism Acceptance Day was widely known as an awareness day. But by acknowledging the full reality of Autism, we move far beyond awareness toward acceptance and meaningful action.

This April, during Autism Acceptance Month, many of us are embracing the notion that Autism Is generosity. When we give to support one another, we raise up our community with the resources they need.

In that spirit, I ask you to please join me today and

make your gift for Autism Acceptance Day.

This year, the Autism Society of America celebrates 60 years of connecting, supporting, and advocating for the Autistic community.

At a time when so many individuals, families, and care providers need help understanding a diagnosis ... navigating healthcare, therapy options, housing and employment, future and financial planning, and so much more ... the Autism Society is always here to help.

Let’s be here for them with our support at this critical time.

With love,

Jennifer Cook

Autism Acceptance Month begins today!

This April, we highlight the varied experiences and support needs across Autism.

Dear Hcis,

Autism Acceptance Month is here!

This April, we highlight the varied experiences and support needs across Autism. We also mark the Autism Society’s 60th year of connecting, supporting, and advocating for the Autism community.

Today, I invite you to do two things to help us kick off Autism Acceptance Month. First, check out our Autism Is campaign at AutismSociety.org/AutismIs and consider sharing what Autism Is to you. Our Autism Is campaign amplifies the voices and lived experiences of Autistic individuals. Autism Is personal and collective—an identity, a culture, a way of life. It comes with strengths and struggles, moments of joy and challenge – and your experience is valid. We see you.

Second, please make your gift to support our work during this critical time.

As fellow Autism Society supporter and father, Robert Naseef shared, Autism Is teaching me about being human.... I tried so hard to change my son, Tariq, but in the end he changed me. He transformed me into a better version of myself as a man, a father, a partner, a brother, and a friend.”

Donate

Hcis, with the prevalence of Autism now at 1 in 36, it has become part of so many lives. The Autism Society of America serves 1 million+ people a year with vital information and assistance — more than 2,700 a day.

That’s why the work we do, and your unwavering support, is so important.

With you by our side, the Autism Society can continue its 60-year legacy as a beacon of hope for Autistic children and adults, their families, advocates, and others as they each navigate their own unique journey of what Autism Is

With gratitude,

Christopher Banks

President and Chief Executive Officer
