Dear Hcis,
Autism Is unique to each one of us. Everyone’s story is different, and the experience of Autism Is not one thing; it is variations on a theme in which our human experiences are simultaneously distinct and yet intrinsically, beautifully united. We are the spectrum. Today is Autism Acceptance Day — a globally recognized moment to affirm, promote, and celebrate the human rights, fundamental value, and freedoms of every Autistic individual. Autism Is an identity, a culture, a way of life. It comes with opportunities and challenges, moments of joy and of struggle. In the past, Autism Acceptance Day was widely known as an awareness day. But by acknowledging the full reality of Autism, we move far beyond awareness toward acceptance and meaningful action. This April, during Autism Acceptance Month, many of us are embracing the notion that Autism Is generosity. When we give to support one another, we raise up our community with the resources they need. |
