Drowning Can Happen in 2 Inches of Water

Nearly half of individuals with Autism, and 60% of individuals with Alzheimer's or dementia, are at risk of wandering — often toward water, where even a few inches can become life-threatening. The It Takes Two campaign emphasizes that safety begins with fast actions and a dual-layer approach: prevention and preparedness.

In addition, 3.5 million individuals would lose health insurance coverage under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) as a result of proposals in this bill. Crisis: 10 million will lose Medicaid

We need your help now! Congress is moving forward with a harmful reconciliation budget bill that would put the health, well-being, and education of millions—including Autistic individuals and those with disabilities—at serious risk.

This legislation includes devastating cuts to Medicaid and SNAP, while also threatening public education funding. A program like Medicaid is not optional—it is an essential lifeline for so many people in our community.

What’s at Stake:

Nearly $1 trillion in proposed cuts—about 20% of the entire federal program.
An estimated 10 million people could lose access to Medicaid, with 7 million additional individuals losing insurance under the marketplace. (Your insurance might be Medicaid, under a different name, check here.)
Medicaid supports Autistic individuals and their families through therapies, early intervention, home and community-based services, medication coverage, direct support professionals, and more.
These services make it possible for people to live independently, access necessary supports, and live fully in their communities.

Why Medicaid Cuts Matter

These cuts will have a disproportionate impact on the disability community. Families who rely on these services to care for their children and loved ones. Adults who depend on supports to live with autonomy and agency. People who rely on life-saving medications to treat co-occurring conditions like seizure disorders, mental health, and more. We must come together to protect these essential programs. Lives and futures are on the line.
